Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: In a wide saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the drained rice and sauté gently for 4-5 minutes until the grains become translucent and pearl-like.

Step 2: Pour in 3 cups of hot broth and season with 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil, then cover with a tight-fitting lid, reduce heat to the lowest setting, and let it simmer undisturbed for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it steam for 10 minutes.

Step 3: In a separate skillet, heat the remaining olive oil and butter over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced onion and sauté until translucent.

Step 4: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until the meat releases its juices, browns nicely, and turns tender.

Step 5: Season the cooked minced meat with salt, black pepper, and allspice, stirring well to infuse all the rich aromatic spices.

Step 6: To plate, shape the warm buttery rice pilaf neatly in the center of a wide, modern round white porcelain plate. Create a slight well or hollow right in the absolute center.

Step 7: Spoon the savory, spiced minced meat directly into the center well of the rice mound. Serve immediately while hot, accompanied by a small salt shaker and red pepper flakes shaker on the side.

Chef's Closing Tip

Sautéing the rice grains thoroughly in butter before adding the hot broth is the golden rule for achieving separate, fluffy, and glossy individual grains in traditional Turkish pilaf.

A Hearty Crown Jewel

Combining buttery, delicate rice grains with richly spiced, savory ground beef, this dish stands as a proud classic of home-style comfort food. Elegant yet deeply satisfying, it brings warmth and authenticity straight to your dining table.
