Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, egg, and salt. Whisk them together until smooth.
Step 2: Add the baking powder and gradually start adding the flour, a little at a time, kneading continuously until you get a soft, smooth dough that does not stick to your hands.
Step 3: Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
Step 4: Lightly flour your countertop and roll out the rested dough to about half-inch (1 cm) thickness. Cut the dough into your preferred shapes, such as small squares, triangles, or circles (you can also poke a small hole in the center of each piece).
Step 5: Heat plenty of vegetable oil in a wide, deep pan over medium-high heat.
Step 6: Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil. Fry them, turning occasionally, until both sides turn a gorgeous golden brown and puff up nicely (about 2-3 minutes per batch).
Step 7: Remove the fried dough using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Chef's Closing Tip
