Turkish Sucuk and Egg with Kasar Cheese

Sucuk - Eggs - Kasar cheese - Butter - Red pepper flakes

Ingredients

• 100g Turkish fermented beef sausage (sucuk), sliced into coin shapes

• 3 large eggs

• 1 cup grated Turkish Kasar cheese (or mild mozzarella)

• 1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)

• A pinch of red pepper flakes (pul biber) and black pepper (optional)

Recipe Details & Quick Facts

• Prep Time: 5 minutes

• Cook Time: 10 minutes

• Servings: 2 portions

• Cost Level: Budget-Friendly

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Heat a small skillet or traditional copper pan (sahan) over medium heat without adding any oil, as the sucuk will release its own flavorful oils.

Step 2: Arrange the sliced sucuk in a single layer across the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until they begin to brown and release their spices, then flip them over to cook the other side.

Step 3: Add the butter to the pan, allowing it to melt and mix with the delicious sucuk oils.

Step 4: Crack the eggs directly into the pan over the sucuk. You can leave the yolks runny or gently break them with a fork depending on your preference.

Step 5: Sprinkle the grated Kasar cheese generously all over the eggs and sucuk.

Step 6: Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer on low heat for 3-4 minutes until the egg whites are fully set and the Kasar cheese is completely melted and bubbly.

Step 7: Remove from heat, dust with a pinch of red pepper flakes on top, and serve immediately straight from the hot pan.

Chef's Closing Tip

Serve this hearty breakfast hot with plenty of crusty fresh bread to dip into the melted cheese and spiced oil. Enjoy your meal!

The Story of Sucuklu Yumurta
